Is the Pixel 7 Still Supported? (October 2026 answer)

Short answer: yes, for about one more year. Google guarantees the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro updates until October 2027. Both phones got the October 2026 security update (patch level 2026-10-05) on 6 October 2026 and run Android 17. The Pixel 7a came out later, so its guarantee runs until May 2028. Your Pixel 7 is safe to use today, but it's in its last year of guaranteed updates.

Google's Pixel update policy puts the Pixel 7, 7 Pro and 7a in the group that gets "5 years of OS and security updates" from when each phone first went on sale in the US Google Store. Google's availability table lists October 2022 for the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro and May 2023 for the Pixel 7a. Add five years and you get October 2027 and May 2028.

The October 2026 Pixel Update Bulletin (published 6 October 2026) says all supported Google devices get the 2026-10-05 patch level. Droid Life's build list and Google's own factory images page both list build CP3A.261005.002.A1 for the Pixel 7, 7 Pro and 7a, marked "17.0.0" (Android 17).

What happens after October 2027?

  • No more monthly security patches. The phone keeps working, but new Android vulnerabilities found after that won't be fixed on it.
  • Google Play system updates continue for a while. They patch some parts of Android, but only a small share of what a monthly update fixes.
  • Apps keep working for now. Banking and payment apps tend to drop old patch levels eventually, not overnight.
  • The Pixel 7a gets seven more months. It's guaranteed updates until May 2028.

The Pixel 6 is a year ahead on the same path: its guarantee ends this month. Read Is the Pixel 6 still supported? to see what that looks like.

What should you do?

  1. Install the October 2026 update now: Settings → System → Software update. Check that the security patch level reads 2026-10-05.
  2. Keep using it, but plan ahead. A Pixel 7 is fine for banking, DigiD and work email until October 2027. Budget for a replacement some time in the next year.
  3. Don't buy a used Pixel 7 as your main phone in 2026. It only has about a year of guaranteed updates left. A Pixel 8 or newer is a better pick: Google promises those 7 years of updates from their US launch. The Pixel 8 went on sale in the US in October 2023, so it's covered until October 2030, and newer models longer.
