When Does the Galaxy S25 Stop Getting Updates? (2026 answer)
Short answer: not until about 2032. On 18 October 2026 the Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, S25 Edge and S25 FE are all on Samsung's list for monthly security updates, and they're getting One UI 9 with Android 17 now. Samsung promises seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates "from the global launch date". Samsung doesn't print end dates, so by our own maths security updates should run until about early 2032 for the S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra, about May 2032 for the S25 Edge and about September 2032 for the S25 FE. Those dates are our estimate, not Samsung's.

Samsung's official security update scope page lists "Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, Galaxy S25 Ultra, Galaxy S25 Edge, Galaxy S25 FE" under Current Models for Monthly Security Updates. Samsung adds that some carriers only ship quarterly updates, even for phones on the monthly list.
Is the Galaxy S25 getting One UI 9?
Yes, it's rolling out now. Samsung ended the beta and released stable One UI 9 for the S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra in South Korea on 28 September 2026, and for the S25 Edge and S25 FE a few hours later the same day (SamMobile). US carrier models followed from 3 October and unlocked phones from 5 October (Forbes, Samsung Magazine). In Europe the S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra got it on 6 October, firmware S93xBXXUCDZIF, with a download of over 3 GB if you weren't in the beta (SamMobile).
For the S25 Edge and S25 FE in Europe, reports differ: Dutch site Galaxyclub listed European firmware for both on 6 October, and an S25 FE owner there said it was arriving (Galaxyclub), while other trackers hadn't confirmed it yet. If you don't see it, it's on its way: check Settings → Software update → Download and install.
Is the S25 still getting monthly security patches?
Yes. All five models are on Samsung's monthly list. When One UI 9 arrived in Europe it came with the September 2026 security patch, not October's (Galaxyclub). Samsung published its October 2026 security bulletin with fixes for nine critical Android flaws (Samsung Mobile Security); expect it on the S25 as a separate update after One UI 9, timing by region and carrier. To check your level: Settings → About phone → Software information → Android security patch level.
How many Android upgrades are left?
- S25, S25+, S25 Ultra and S25 Edge: five. They launched on Android 15 and have had Android 16 (One UI 8) and now Android 17 (One UI 9). Seven generations means five more after this one; on Google's yearly rhythm the last would be Android 22.
- S25 FE: six. It launched on Android 16, so One UI 9 is its first of seven upgrades; the last would be Android 23.
Those version numbers are our maths, not a Samsung statement. Samsung's own wording is "seven generations of OS upgrades".
Where our end-of-support estimates come from
- Samsung's promise: "seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates", in its S25 launch announcement. Samsung's UAE newsroom adds that the S25 series is supported "from the global launch date" (Samsung Gulf), and the S25 FE announcement uses the same words. SamMobile confirmed the same promise for the S25 Edge at its launch (SamMobile).
- The maths: seven years from the January/February 2025 launch is about February 2032; from May 2025 (Edge) about May 2032; from September 2025 (FE) about September 2032. Support is tied to the model's launch, not to when you bought your phone.
- The track record: Samsung has kept its earlier promises. The Galaxy S20 dropped off the list about five years after launch, and the Galaxy S22 moved to quarterly updates after four years. Expect the S25 to slow to quarterly updates some years before the end, like older models did; Samsung hasn't said when.
Timing still varies by country and carrier. Treat these as planning dates, not guarantees to the day.
Is a Galaxy S25 worth buying used or refurbished?
Yes, if the price is right. A used S25 bought in October 2026 should get roughly five more years of security updates (our estimate, to about February 2032) and five more Android upgrades. A used Galaxy S24 gets about a year less (to about January 2031, our estimate) and is usually cheaper, so compare the price per year left. The S25 FE has the longest runway of the five (about September 2032, our estimate) but it's the cheaper, lower-spec model. If you buy one, check it's on One UI 9 or at least One UI 8.5 and install updates straight away.

What should S25 owners do?
- Install One UI 9 when it appears, after a backup. Settings → Software update → Download and install.
- Then install the October patch when it shows up as a separate update.
- Don't think about replacing it for software reasons. It's fully supported, including for banking, payments, DigiD and work email, for years.
- Replace the battery, not the phone, if it gets weak later on. With updates until about 2032, a new battery is usually the cheaper fix.

Buying a used phone?
A cheap used phone can still be a bad deal if it's locked to someone else's account, reported stolen, carrier-locked or close to its own end-of-support date. Our own guide, Safe to Buy Used? The Second-Hand Phone & Gadget Checklist, walks you through every check before you pay. It's a paid PDF we make ourselves; checking a model on our device list stays free.
